Roofers in Stockport — what we see and what we do

Stockport's housing stock is a roofer's cross-section of the last 150 years. The terraces around Edgeley, Heaviley and Reddish are mostly original Welsh slate on the first or second nailing — beautiful when sound, but once the nails corrode you get the classic pattern of slates slipping one after another across a slope. The interwar semis in Heaton Moor, Heaton Mersey and Cheadle Heath are largely concrete or clay tile with mortar-bedded ridges that are now well past their design life. Out towards Bramhall, Hazel Grove and Marple there's more detached stock, more complicated roof geometry and more valleys to go wrong.

The other Stockport constant is water. The town sits in the Mersey and Tame valleys, which means wind-driven rain funnelling up from the west and a lot of mature trees dropping leaves into gutters every autumn.
